I haven't posted in a while, so I wanted to find something interesting. This article is about how the discovery of an early alphabet found in a settlement of 10th century B.C. Israel has an effect on the modern debate in the archeological community, which is itself an extension of the politics in the region.

Research on ancient writing linked with modern Mideast conflict

On a more personal note, this week is absolutely crazy as the entire family has to deal with doctor's appointments, dentist appointments, flu clinics, pre-school open houses, university orientations, and registering cars in the new state (still) combined with all the normal weekly activities (work, school, gymnastics, art class, playdates, etc.). And of course GOF.

I am definitely looking forward to the weekend.

Urg. I hate weeks like that, but they seem to be more and more frequent this time of year.

What are you all doing for GoF?

We actually found a babysitter (yeah!) so we are going to go to the 4:00 o'clock showing on Friday. Of course, I have to pick up Owen at 3:30pm and Carrie will be at Georgetown most of the afternoon, so I think we will both be dashing like mad to get to the theater on time.

Isn't there a large group getting together in your area? It is to bad we didn't live a little closer, that would have been fun.

A fair size - seven, I believe (me, my husband - Luke, Kristen, [livejournal.com profile] bookwench31, [livejournal.com profile] dezzikitty, [livejournal.com profile] jiggerypokery, and & [livejournal.com profile] parkingmeters).

Well, I'm hoping that Luke and I will be able to both go. Kristen (<3), with the blitheness only those without child have, got our tickets for the 10pm showing - which, as you can imagine, makes it impossible to get a babysitter.

I think I may have talked my parents into driving down and staying the night with us & watch Monkey, but I'm not 100% that they will be able to.

Babysitters are the bane of my existence. Congratulations on finding yours!

(And I wish you all lived closer, too!)

Yeah, we got pretty lucky. Carrie signed Annie up for an art class through Gymboree, and the teacher turned out to be a graduate student. Carrie asked one day and she said she was open to babysitting. Hopefully we can make this a standing arrangement, since a lot of good movies are about to come out.

We also found a babysitter from a list of students that had a club when we were at UT. So that's two students. Maybe you could check the local universities/colleges, and see if you can find a babysitting club there.

Well I hope y'all can make it Friday night.

Totally dig the Xmas LJ them, by the way. Annie likes the bouncing Santas. :))

I know Samford has one, my roommate used to do it. However, I'm still a little skittish about leaving Monkey with a stranger since she's still fairly young. I know this is the paranoid new mother in me, and I feel like I will be getting over this pretty soon as there are more & more things we're missing out on by having to stay home... But for right now, I'm not quite there yet.

Thanks! I'm really enjoying it, and I'm glad I put it up so early - more time to stare at it in rapture! :))

Oh, and tell Annie I'm glad she likes the Santas; they make me really happy, as well! I particularly like the surprised "O" their mouths take on when they hit the ground. It makes me giggle.

I mean, after 50 or so bounces, you think they'd get used to it. :))
