I am whole-heartedly in agreement with a pro-hacker university. See the article An Assignment From Professor Packetslinger of the School of Loose Screws, which describes a university professor who has given his students the homework of probing the security of some server using public domain tools. Of course, the university in question has made it clear to the students that if they carry out the homework on one of the univeristy's servers, they could face disciplinary action. But it sounds like they have no problem if the students attempt to hack a bank, the government, etc.
Hopefully the students final exam will be to drain the coffers of the Republican National Committee and donate the money to charity. :D
